2024 plans

What are your plans for this years rendition of OCC? Are you leaning towards sticking firmly to the official rules, making your own variant of it, or something completely custom?

I'm planning on going completely custom this year, since I wasn't over the moon about the suggested rules for this year.

My idea is to solely use my Powerbook G4, with at most an external mouse if I feel the trackpad is too cramped, and a 4G cellular modem.
I'm going to be running Mac OS 10.5.8 Leopard on it.

With it being the middle of summer at that point, I am going to lean heavily on it being portable, and banking on some days having nice weather (at least)
I'm going to take the computer out for trips, and spend time on it in parks, random nice places, cow pastures, whatever.

I'm going to do a week with no graphical server on something portable. Not really going to worry about hardware limitations, since all the machines I have are old, but I will only use one for the duration of the challenge.

I have yet to decide what OS to use, since the console on netbsd and openbsd can only print ASCII, this might add a little spice to the challenge, if I decide to go with either.

As with all the previous challenges, the most annoying will be the web experience.

I will also forbid myself to draw any digital art, since that's entirely dependent on X programs - unless I figure out how to do it inside the terminal ;)

What are the "official" rules? Has Solene announced anything yet?

I've not seen anything definitive yet, but the last thing I saw was about limiting the lines of code you are running in your OS, and/or doing any of the previous challenges again.. That just seems incredibly lazy and boring to me, but I can only speak for myself of course. But given that it's the best thing solene has come up with so far, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the general direction it's gonna go. So regardless I will be doing my own thing, because it's about having fun and doing something different! :)

Hm ok that doesn't sound too appealing at first glance, but I'll withhold my judgement until the "official" announcement is out, and then I'll see what I'm going to do.

My plan for this year has been to spend the week on the blueberry ibook. I still need to go and order the cells to refurb the battery, I think. I'll go mad if I have to keep resetting my clock every time I boot :)

Nothing on Solene's site, at least.

Something should pop up soon-ish if everything goes like the past years. Imo. it should be announced much sooner so everyone can prepare better. It's easy for the one who's making the rules to know what'll happen in advance. Not so much for the rest.
