after years of the only ppc mac i had being a g4 ibook, i've been craving something that could boot os 9 natively without hacks

now that i have an ibook g3 i don't know what to do with it

i have it working online with a new battery and a wifi to ethernet bridge so it's fully wireless again. it enters the list of "laptops i want to take to coffee shops to make normal people double-take" along with a huge pentium II laptop in the same state wrt wifi and battery

what should i do with it? i love the os 9 aesthetic but i'm realizing i don't have much use for it now (or at least, that i couldn't already do on my g4 in os x 10.4)

That's really nice! I just love that size of laptops. And the iBooks seemingly age a little better than the G4 PowerBooks.
I had the same experience with OS9 when I tried it. I didn't know what to do with it.. I suppose exploring old software from the period could be one thing to do.

It's a lovely laptop :)

Maybe use it for note taking or blogging. I don't know how good the keyboard is, if it is great to type on or not.

My experience with owning more than one laptop, is that I tend to go for the one with either the best keyboard or the lowest weight. And only when I want to do nifty things with virtual machines I grab my x270 (most powerful laptop I own).

Jealous! I love my blueberry g3 but you can't get batteries for them anymore, you have to hand-rebuild from cells.

Does the wifi actually work? I was under the impression that OS9 couldn't even do WPA1.

that is the case of the internal airport (which i don't even have), yes

the blue thing on top of the keyboard in the picture is a wifi to ethernet bridge, it gets power from usb so it needs two wires going to the laptop but is otherwise fully enclosed to take around with the laptop on battery

classilla can't quite load the setup pages but it also burps out its own wireless access point so i can set up what network to connect it to with a smartphone, and then it simply gives the ibook internet via ethernet

it downloads from macgarden faster than the g4 ibook does with its airport!

Ohhh, I'd never thought about wifi to ethernet. That'd be clever if I ever refurb the battery.
