y2k mood board

Post by zero cool »

This is hardly a project, and more along the lines of boredom-fuelled shitstabbing.

So you see what happened was I stumbled across this tumblr over yonder: https://y2kaestheticinstitute.tumblr.com

I thought it was a whole lot of scrolling involved, and anything but self-hosted.
So I found some tumblr-downloader script on github that let me snort down all the images from tumblr profiles.
This is how I ended up with roughly 4000 images to deal with.

At this point I dug up the static HTML image gallery-generating script our oracle put together a couple of years back.
I pointed that at the dir with said 4000-ish images and left to its own devices for a few hours. Most of this time was spent waiting for imagemagick to generate all the thousands of thumbnails.

But the result is this 9-ish Gigabyte chonk of a image gallery mess, where you can just hop in and drench yourself in the y2k aesthetic, if you can be bothered waiting for everything to load.
Luckily it's not loading 9GB in the browser directly. All the loaded images are thumbnails. They are then clickable for the full size version.

If you have a decent internet connection it's not THAT horrible to load

If you instead want an offline version to dig through, there is a zip of the entire thing here
http://stuxnode.com/y2kboard.zip
This doesn't really compress at all, so the zip is still 9GB. But it's only one file to deal with at least.

Disgusting facts:
There are 48050 files in the dir.
Some links are broken, I don't care.
The index file is nearly 1MB, and has 5949 lines.
I think I forgot to pick the script out of the zip file.
Everything is a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.
