I am doing 1989, it is around the time I got a UNIX system at work. I will set up OpenBSD on an old Laptop to emulate that old system.

With that said, once it starts I will have no access to any GUI applications since I never even new X existed until a few years later.

Did you actually install without the x-sets?

For OpenBSD it is recommended to install X, which I did. I set this up after a friend gave me that system a while ago. She was throwing it out, so I grabbed it from her.

But I will not start xdm, without xdm X is really unusable under OpenBSD.

On daily comics, you can always print them with netcat against an IP printer.

Good idea, but wait for it, my only printer is a dot matrix

But will remember that should I ever get a real printer

Install imagemagick and ghostscript. Then:

conver stripcomic.png -colors 2 -resize 320x240 cave.ps

Then send that PS file to the printer with either LPR or CUPS.
