e-book: Kobo Clara BW

Post by oracle »

So, after about three years of trying to get an offline e-book reader that has no useless features, khm made this post and I immediately bought it.

This means you can effectively use it as an offline device, without the need to sell your soul to some company, just to read your files. Without this 'jailbreak', you cannot use the device, unless you register your device and make an online account.

You can still use the wifi though. It does have a web browser:

Oh that's pretty neat! And an extremely simple jailbreak as well.. Cool stuff!
Everything is a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.

I actually have a Clara. It's a really nice bit. I bought a lot of 1st gen Kobos but they were built terrible. One literally broke from being in my pocket during a drive (going from Orlando to Tampa, it being in my jeans caused the screen to crack.) The Clara has held up much better. They're all super easy to hack and cfw too. You literally just put a zip with a root image into a specified directory on the sd card and it "upgrades" to it no questions asked if I remember right.

I’ve got a Clara HD and the process for skipping registration for mine was closer to mounting it in mass storage mode, opening up the sqlite settings database and flipping the toggle to tell it I was registered. If only other products were so compliant!

I wish I knew (or at least searched something of sorts) when I first got my Kobo Libra 2; I really like this reader and used it a ton before this year.
It is still one of the best devices I've had because after initial set up I could use it fully offline and without any special programms. Actually it is a thing that made to get an eink monitor for my pc!
nano and C is all I can see ^_^'
