Re: Modding the charger cable for a Powerbook G4 to USB-C

Man, I've forgot to reply to a bunch of posts here. Work stress does that I suppose, lol. But yeah, it's a pretty nice mod! And simple too. It should be trivial to build a cable for your Tandy as well. 80s portables are usually extremely un-fussy about the charger, as long as the Voltage and current...

Re: 2024 - what is everybody doing?

My plan is, as most have probably seen already, to go completely portable. That might be either portable at home, or outdoors, on hikes, trips into town, hanging around in parks etc. Anything goes really. This will be done with what turned out to be an early 2008 Macbook (The trashy Macbook Pro from...

Re: 2024 plans

Oh that would be easy! :D Just the solar panel and a buck-boost converter* set to the right voltage ;) I've always had a thing for portable computing and electronics, so I'm all for it! I'm also going to do the old digital camera thing, and write, edit and upload all the challenge logs on the old co...

Re: 2024 plans

Yeah. For some reason it seems like the founder is the one who's the least excited and interested in the event.

Re: 2024 plans

Yeah one can always hope! I'm fully set on doing my own thing. But for the rest of you who are planning on the official challenge, I really hope she comes up with something better!

Re: 2024 plans

Yeah it's such a damn bummer! I did try another RAM stick in it, and sadly it does exactly the same... I guess the heat cycles over the years and the fact it has been severely dropped at some point finally caught up with it. Bah! Yeah that MBP shares the same design language as the Powerbook G4's. S...

Re: 2024 plans

My plans for this year may have been slightly shattered all of a sudden.. From being perfectly reliable, the old Powerbook G4 has started being *very* unstable and unreliable. It frequently freezes completely, freezes partially, or is lagging considerably. Sometimes it kernel panics even. And someti...

That sounds like a great idea! Different and interesting.

Re: 2024 plans

It's as if she has completely lost the spirit of the challenge tbh. This year just sounds like the worst part (for the community) of the past years; limiting internet usage to 1 hour, cranked up to the max. And completely disregarding any kind of hardware/resource limitations is just weird. It's jus...

Re: 2024 plans

That was my thinking as well.. Seems really lazy tbh.
I already do this with social media, but with a 15 minute limit. Not much of a challenge, lol.
