Re: Acer Aspire resurrection
That's pretty sweet tbh! Laptops of that era don't get any love what so ever. That being said, they're mostly just shiny garbage. But still! Approved.

Re: SOFTWARE RECOMMENDATIONS
I see! Sadly I don't believe they had implemented the external monitor support the later Intel machines have. Where you can put the computer to sleep, plug in an external monitor and wake it again. It then fully disables the onboard display and redirects all GPU performance to that. It's easy to for...

Re: SOFTWARE RECOMMENDATIONS
I had a peek at your G4 shenanigans, and it sounds like a pretty nice setup, for sure! How well does it drive that monitor? I've found the OS getting sort of micro-stuttery and not very responsive if you drive really high resolutions. At least when I ran dual 1080p monitors on my G5 Powermac I had t...

Apple flavoured OCC
Pre-blerb I decided early on, long before the challenge rules were set in stone, that I would do my own thing for this years challenge. How it came to be old Apple hardware, however wasn't planned. I bought a 12" Powerbook G4 quite a while ago, because I've always thought those machines are re...

Re: Moldy Apple Adventures
Cheers! The old iMac found its way to what was my primary computer desk, where I hadn't even booted up the computer in over a month, since I have been tinkering only eith old, more fun computers. It feels like that wallpaper has become a staple of Headcrash computing lately. lol.

Re: 2024 plans
Not just me having problems it seems, lol. I suppose it's quite common for laptops to age swiftly and poorly. Around 2007 seems to be a decent time frame to get an old laptop that still functions mostly properly. Older one are more charming of course, but they can rarely be used as true laptops anym...

Re: Moldy Apple Adventures
Thanks! I picked up the cheap and mystery iMac today. It turned out to be a mid-2011 model, not late 2000s. It's a 21.5" variant with some 2.5GHz i5, 4GB RAM and a 500GB mechanical hard drive. I did what any unreasonable person would do and threw an SSD into it, shoved 24GB of RAM in, because I...

Re: SOFTWARE RECOMMENDATIONS
Since I'm doing Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard this year, and software for that is surprisingly tricky to find, I'll chime in with that. Web browser InterWeb 60.9.9 2024.03.14 64-bit A fork of Pale Moon that's been patched by some individual. Text Editor Textwrangler 4.5.12 (3398) There are several, but...

Moldy Apple Adventures
Seeing as I'm apparently going through some old derelict Apple-phase, I figured I would start a thread to document my pointless shenanigans. This all really stems from me always having been curious about Apple hardware and software, and always liked the industrial design of the machines from about 2...
