Daily driving a G4 TiBook: brain dump

So I've already posted a bunch of very random updates all over the forum, and I have many more random thoughts written down in the Stickies app. I think I'm gonna do a bigger post on my blog with the summary/conclusion, but meanwhile post smaller / more regular brain dumps here. - Intro: https://bb....

Re: Apple flavoured OCC

With less back pain. lol. I'm definitely not the one laughing, I've been seeing laptops as something between necessary evil and an insidious trap for a while now. The back is better when it's straight, the wrists happier in a more natural position, etc. Gonna throw this one in for inspiration: http...

Re: Acer Aspire resurrection

Oh my, I was looking to purchase my first new laptop around 2007/8; but a median machine of that era was just a pile of shiny trash (glossy screens, yuck!), so ended up getting a second-hand Thinkpad ^^ Around that time, Asus made a really cool move to bring the insanely cheap EEE PC to the market -...

Re: A brief history of my audio shenanigans and equipment up to today

I'm just casually browsing this forum and there's way too much cool stuff everywhere. The Airport Express sounds like something that would sell like crazy even today. (I used to have a pair of Gen1 HomePods and I'm no longer a fan, things are as dumb as they (try to be) smart, and the lack of simple...

Re: SOFTWARE RECOMMENDATIONS

Some updates on what I got to work ^^ Modern LibreSSL & OpenSSH can be compiled without any issues (although it takes a while, I probably should've timed it). First, get the latest release tarballs from https://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/LibreSSL/ & https://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/OpenS...

Re: SOFTWARE RECOMMENDATIONS

I had a peek at your G4 shenanigans, and it sounds like a pretty nice setup, for sure! How well does it drive that monitor? I've found the OS getting sort of micro-stuttery and not very responsive if you drive really high resolutions. At least when I ran dual 1080p monitors on my G5 Powermac I had ...

Re: SOFTWARE RECOMMENDATIONS

PowerBook G4 / Mac OS X 10.5.8 checking in... I might update this post as I go along. Many stock/system apps work really well, at least for my current needs. These include: - Finder - Terminal - iTunes (playing music, ripping CDs, encoding ALAC...) - Stickies (great for cheat sheets, drafts/note-tak...

Re: 2024 - what is everybody doing?

Hello everyone! It's my second time participating in the challenge; I joined for the first time in 2022 (for v2) and mostly just used it as an excuse to stay completely offline the whole time ;) My setup for 2024 is documented here: https://www.rollc.at/posts/2024-07-02-tibook/ TL;DR: PowerBook G4 8...
